Robert Iggulden
Group Chairman

Robert Iggulden is a prominent professional investor and a 30-year veteran of asset management and direct investment in the City of London. Prior to becoming a founding shareholder and joining the Board of Gryphon, Robert held senior positions at Johnson Fry, Dunbar Bank and James Capel.

Robert is a member of the Securities and Investment Institute.

Jonathan Young
Chief Executive Officer

Jonathan Young is the founder and CEO of Gryphon Holdings Plc. He is an investment banking professional with two decades of experience in the emerging markets of the CEEMEA region.

Prior to founding Gryphon, Jonathan was an investment banker at Chase Manhattan Bank and held senior positions at Carnegie, where he built the Emerging Markets arm into the leading independent brokerage house for the CEEMEA region.

Jonathan has a first class master's degree in English from Queens' College, Cambridge and is a British national.

Theodora Antipas

Theodora is an experienced investment banker who has held senior positions with Chase Manhattan and Chemical Securities.

In her career she has developed expertise in corporate finance and capital raising in debt capital markets with wide ranging experience in the CEEMEA region, Latin America and South East Asia.

She has a track record in creating and implementing corporate growth strategies for start-up businesses, identifying and evaluating business opportunities. She spent a number of years living and working in Paris and then New York before returning to London.

Theodora  has a BSc Econ Hons University of Wales in Law, Politics and Economics

Ataner Demirel

Ataner Demirel is Gryphon's partner in Central Asia and is a veteran of international business in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

Ataner has served as Vice Chairman of TA Group, a leading Turkish-Kazakh engineering group in Almaty, where he has been resident for 15 years, and responsible for many of the most important commercial real estate developments and other projects in the region

A German national and brought up in Turkey and the USA, Ataner holds a first degree in Business Administration from Hacettepe University, a post-graduate degree in Communications from Gazi University and is undertaking a doctorate at the Faculty of Communications of Ankara University.

Ataner is based in Almaty, Kazakhstan and is fluent in Turkish, Russian, English and German.

Ahmet Duren

Ahmet Duren is a senior Turkish industrial executive with extensive knowledge of the renewables and eco-infrastructure sectors in Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Romania.

Ahmet started his career in metals trading, eventually heading the Moscow office of a leading Turkish trading group, before being recruited as the head of Central Asia for Gerald Metals, based in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Ahmet then moved into infrastructure project development as head of business development in eastern Europe for Alarko and then as head of the Kyiv office of Doğuş İnşaat, both leading Turkish infrastructure groups. Most recently, he has served as an adviser to Veolia and General Manager of their joint venture with Turkerler Group in Turkey.

Ahmet holds a BSc. In Industrial Engineering from the Middle East Technical University in İstanbul.

Samir El-Alaily

Samir El-Alaily is one of Egypt's best known businessmen and entrepreneurs, with a background in shipping, logistics and finance.

In 1983, Samir established Marine & Engineering Services Co. (MESCO), which has become a leader in the Egyptian shipping industry. He went on to establish Investia, a full service investment bank operating under capital market law and based in Cairo, with subsidiaries engaged in a diverse array of investment services, including asset management, securities brokerage, corporate finance, equity research, venture capital and leasing. The firm's investment banking activities were sold to Global Investment House in Kuwait in 2008.

Samir then established SEA Capital Holdings, a private investment company focusing on four business sectors to capture growth opportunities in Egypt and North and East Africa. Subsidiaries include Musahamat Investia, SEA Capital's venture capital fund, which arm focuses on enabling Egyptian small and medium sized companies to expand regionally.

An architecture graduate from Alexandria University, Samir also serves as the honorary consul of Malta in Alexandria and is a member of various NGOs.

Samir is based in Cairo, Egypt.

David Gigauri

David is involved in origination and execution of cross border transactions for companies and their shareholders with a specific focus on CIS states and Georgia. Additionally, he advises and assists clients from the Emerging Markets on inbound investments in the United Kingdom. David Gigauri has 10 years of experience of working with entrepreneurs and organisations in the Emerging Markets of Eastern Europe.

Prior to joining Gryphon in 2009, he worked for the Consumer, Healthcare & Retail (CHR) investment banking team at JP Morgan in London, and Communications & Public Affairs Department at TNK-BP Oil Company in Moscow. He has also worked on several Real Estate projects in New-York, London and Moscow.

David holds a BA in Business and Economics from University College London (UCL) and an MSc (with merit) from the London School of Economics (LSE). In addition to English he speaks Russian and Georgian.

David Walker

David Walker is among the most experienced emerging markets investment bankers in Europe, with a particular specialisation in Africa, CIS markets and the oil and gas sector.

David started his career as a lawyer with Linklaters in London, before moving into investment banking with Daiwa and then Nomura, where he spent 9 years in London and Johannesburg. He then moved to Moscow for 5 years as an MD with Deutsche Bank UFG before joining Citigroup as the MD for CEEMEA. He returned to Moscow in 2011 to head investment banking for Troika Dialog.

During his career, David has led around 20 successful advisory assignments in the CIS, principally Russia, and over 30 in Africa. He has acted for a wide range of clients from global multinational market leaders to start up oil and gas juniors.

David was educated at Oxford, from where he holds an MA in Jurisprudence, and serves on the Boards of Directors of Asia Africa Energy pte ltd and Berlanga Holding BV (both fast growing exploration and production companies) and RG Brands (the leading branded foods company in Kazakhstan).

David is based in London, UK.

Saad Al-Hassosah

Saad Al-Hassosah is Chief Executive Officer of Arbah Capital, the leading full service independent Islamic investment banking firm in Saudi Arabia and Gryphon's principal partner in the Gulf. Information on Arbah is at www.arbahcapital.com

Yannis Criticos

Yannis Criticos is a leading actor in the Greek financial and shipping communities.

Yannis started his career in banking, serving as an executive of Banque Paribas (Suisse) in Geneva and Eurofinance SA and IB San Paolo di Torino SpA in Greece. In 1994, he joined Attica Group, a Greek listed shipping company where, over the next 19 years, he served as CFO and was a key member of the management team that led the Group to market leadership in the regional logistics industry.

Holding a degree in Economics from the University of Essex, UK and an MBA from the City University Business School, since 2013 Yannis has also served as adviser to the Greek Ministry of Shipping, Maritime Affairs and the Aegean Sea on passenger shipping, maritime and ports policy.

Yannis is based in Athens, Greece.

Nebil Ilseven, PhD

Nebil İlseven is a 25 year veteran of the Turkish financial markets and one of Turkey's best known corporate executives.

Nebil has a professional background in the Turkish finance and investment banking sector, occupying senior positions at a number of domestic and international financial institutions in Turkey, including a period of service as a Senior Vice President of the BDDK, the Turkish Banking Supervision Authority, where he helped to oversee the restructuring of the banking sector in the period 2001-2004. His responsibilities involved all aspects of asset management and asset resolution practices including credit restructuring, loan sales, turnaround projects and divestment transactions.

Nebil went on to serve in senior management posts in Turkish industry, including 4 years as Group CEO of Dogan Holding AS, Turkey's leading media group. He continues to hold board level responsibilities in various companies active in the media, renewables, hospitality, internet and real estate industries.

Nebil was educated at the University of Kentucky and served as a lecturer at Istanbul Bilgi University, where he also served as a member of the Board of Trustees. He also holds a doctorate in Banking from Marmara University in Istanbul with specific focus on credit derivative instruments and credit risk transfer practices.

Nebil is based in İstanbul, Turkey

George Mula

George Mula is the principal of Integrated Finance Group, an independent real estate investor and fund adviser in Warsaw. George works with Gryphon on real estate transactions and fund management projects in the region.

George is a 20 year veteran and pioneer of the real estate market in Poland and wider region. He has been involved in some of Poland's largest and most innovative developments, having come to Poland from the UK in 1989 as part of the post-Communist "City of London Initiative", a British Government sponsored transition programme. Since then, George has been a trusted local partner and co-investor for some of the largest global private equity groups, including Blackstone (creating the King's Street Retail investment platform) and Europa Capital LLP (co-investing in several major investment transactions).

George was born and educated in England and holds the Polish Silver Cross of Merit (Civil) for services to Poland.

George is based in Warsaw, Poland

Grzegorz Polaniecki

Grzegorz Polaniecki is one of the leading aviation executives in CEEMEA.

Greg started his career at LOT Polish Airlines where, inter alia, he managed EuroLOT (the Polish regional airline) and served as a Director and CEO of Centralwings (the group's low cost subsidiary). He then went on to serve as an adviser to the LOT Group management board during the company's most successful period of operations.

After 3 years in investment banking (with Gryphon), Greg and his partners set up Enter Air, which has grown from start-up in 2009 to become the leading charter aviation operator in CEE, with a fleet of 14 aircraft operating from its base in Warsaw, Katowice, Poznan and Paris (CDG) and other regional locations around Europe in the process creating a profitable business that is redefining the charter aviation model as a robust economic enterprise.

Greg holds an MSc. from the Technical School in Lublin, Poland,

Greg is based in Warsaw, Poland and works with Gryphon on aerospace and aviation projects in the region.

Tom Turcan

Tom Turcan is a veteran of the conventional and digital media markets in Europe.

Tom trained as a business strategy and technology consultant with Logica and Gemini Consulting, before leading Business Development at Capital Radio, the UK's largest commercial radio network. He then moved to become Director of Business Development at News International, the key European unit of News Corporation with established operations in the UK, the Netherlands, Italy and Sweden.

Since 1999, Tom has been involved as either a senior executive, investor or adviser with a number of major digital ventures, including serving as the General Manager of guardian.co.uk, the world's leading liberal newspaper web platform. Through Runcat, his consulting company, Tom serves as a board adviser and executive consultant to ambitious entertainment, media, retail and 3rd sector clients, including J.K.Rowling (where he helped devise and launch Pottermore), Haymarket Media Group, IPC Media, Guardian News & Media, DMGT, BBC Worldwide/Dennis Publishing (where he was Chairman of the Dovetail JV), RICS, Creative Skillset, and the Funding Board of the UK's Advertising Standards Authority.

Tom is based in London, UK and works with Gryphon on digital media projects in emerging markets.

Nicholas Moy †
1938 - 2013

We regret that 2013 saw the loss of our friend and co-founder Nicholas Moy. Nick was a shareholder and served as Chairman of our firm since its inception in 1998 and his invaluable knowledge of the region, especially the Middle East, and of the private equity world was a cornerstone in Gryphon's development.
